A little bit about me:
I'm married to Kevin, my high school sweetheart. He is my rock and I thank God for him and our wonderful children daily! Life is NEVER boring nor is our house EVER quiet except when everyone is sleeping. I'm super PROUD of all 4 of them but I won't bore you here with how AWESOME they are because they will be in many of my blogs. I'm also a Physical Therapist and I've worked in the healthcare field since I was in high school. I started out working in the ER and as a unit clerk of our small town hospital in Georgetown, Texas. I was hooked from the very beginning in helping others. I've mainly worked in acute care and long term care settings and I've seen a lot of suffering unfortunately. I'll never forget a patient who told me early on in my career, "Lisa, If I'd known I was going to live so long, I would have taken better care of myself." He wasn't that old really, but he was certainly suffering. I was sad for him, but being in my 20's, I didn't quite get it. Now I do. I love being a PT but I've had some serious "burn out". Our health care system is clearly in a crisis and it makes me sad to see so much suffering. There are so many moving parts to "fix" the system but common sense tells me a blend of traditional and nontraditional medicine is the best practice. Yoga is one of those tools that I feel everyone can benefit from but unfortunately people who have severe limitations cannot attend most yoga classes. Yoga has been super impactful in my own vibrant living journey so I'm excited to start working towards a Yoga Therapist Certification for health care professionals over the next few years. Watch this inspirational video about how yoga transformed this disabled veteran. I do not have any nutrition certifications. Any information I share here is our personal experience and not professional. Common sense tells me everyone's optimal diet will vary from person to person and even vary for that person based on what is going on in their life. However, I believe there are some basic common sense rules that most everyone should follow to optimize their health but unfortunately it may not be the information you are hearing about in the mainstream news. The food industry is a HUGE billion dollar business and our health is not their priority...far from it. I highly recommend you start with a holistic health coach if you need to overhaul your dietary choices. I'm far from "perfect" because I now know perfectionism is unattainable and you will drive yourself crazy trying to get there (plus ruin your health in the process)! My truth and mantra is now one of my favorite quotes from Tony Robbins. "Progress = Happiness! If you are growing, and giving, you will be happy!" Here's to vibrant living! Lisa E. |
